Going his own way, refusing to ally with the Clans that run the undead underside of Manhattan - it ain't easy. It's worse once he gets mixed up with the Coalition - the city's most powerful Clan - and finds himself searching for a poor little rich girl who's gone missing in Alphabet City. Now the Coalition and the girl's high-society parents are breathing down his neck, anarchist Vampyres are pushing him around, and a crazy Vampyre cult is stalking him.
No time to complain, though. Got to find that girl and kill that shambler before the whip comes down. What stashes? The only ones that count to a guy like Joe: blood and money. The money he uses to buy blood; the blood he drinks. The only way to lay his hands on both is to take a gig with the local Vampyre Clan. Till Joe sends him through a plate-glass window, that is. See, Joe used to be a Rogue, used to work off his own dime, picked his own gigs, but tight times and a terminally ill girlfriend pushed him into the arms of the renegade Society Clan.
Now he has all the cash and blood he needs, but at a steep price. No need to look far. The answer lies around the corner in Gravesend. Convenient, all those graves. From uptown to the boardwalk, war drums are beating. Murderous family feuds and personal grudges are being drawn and brandished, along with the long knives. But hey, why should this night be different from any other? Sunset to sunrise: put off a war, keep your head attached to your neck, and save your girl.
All Joe has to do to win back breathing privileges on his old turf is infiltrate an upstart Clan whose plan to cure the Vyrus could expose the secret Vampyre world to mortal eyes and set off a panic-driven massacre. Not cool. No sweat? And maybe even some tears—over the horror and heartbreaking truth about the evil men do no matter who or what they are. Not that Joe cares all that much about destiny and such. What he cares about is that his ex-girl Evie wants him to take the gig.
Another turn playing pigeon in a shooting gallery. Maybe one shot of his own.
Nothing much. Just all the evil at the heart of his world. Sign In Don't have an account? Start a Wiki. Contents [ show ]. And if so, have you begun Book Three yet? Any teasers? CH: I'm all but certain that it will be a five-book arc. I've actually completed the first draft of book three and will be doing revisions soon. That book will serve as the pivot for the series.
It has its own self-contained adventure, but you'll start seeing the dominoes being lined up for the big finish.
Teaser: Joe in Brooklyn. Their love is what holds this guy together and their relationship will only get stronger in future installments. Two questions here: How much do reviews really matter to you, and will the relationship between Pitt and Evie be an integral part of new Joe Pitt novels?
CH: Reviews are tricky. You can't value the praise unless you take the criticism to heart as well.
- Better When Wetter.
- More titles to consider.
- No Dominion : A Joe Pitt Novel, book 2.
I mostly try to avoid them, but everybody likes a little praise. Good or bad, the trick is not to let it affect what you write.
Once you start adapting for an audience, things are going to go quickly awry. Or so I believe. I see PW 's point in defining the relationship between Joe and Evie as doomed. I mean, she's HIV positive and she doesn't know he's a vampire. And I've made it pretty clear that his ultimate choices will be to either let her die of her current infection or infect her with the Vampyre Vyrus and doom her to a life he doesn't much care for himself. But as to whether their love is actually doomed in the sense that it will fail?
The answer is in Book Five. PGA: I love your web site www. How has its popularity affected your readership?
No Dominion : Charlie Huston :
CH: God, is it popular? I assume the folks reading it are there because they've read my books or my work in comics. Got me…I imagine it gives some folks a chance to read my work and get an idea of whether or not it's their thing. I like having a clearinghouse for bits and pieces of my brain. Joe Pitt T-shirts, lunchboxes, action figures, blood bags, video games? That ties up most any merchandising. I don't know of any novels that don't have "Da Vinci" in the title that get merchandised.
If a movie ever gets made, there might be a T-shirt or a hat. Maybe a Joe Pitt syringe or switchblade…. See All Customer Reviews. Shop Books. Read an excerpt of this book! Add to Wishlist. USD Sign in to Purchase Instantly. About the Author.
